ANTEROOM TRANSMISSION Vol. 5 -トライフルの複層

This summer, Hotel Anteroom Naha will host "Layers of Trifle," the fifth exhibition in the "ANTEROOM TRANSMISSION" art project, which aims to foster young artists active in Asia. The project launched in 2021 and has previously been held three times at Hotel Anteroom Kyoto and once at Hotel Anteroom Seoul. This fifth exhibition will share a common theme and be held in both Naha and Kyoto.
For this exhibition, which marks ANTEROOM TRANSMISSION's first time in Okinawa, project organizer Seiko Ueda, translator Tatsuki Hayashi, and curator Emi Machida recommended artists who have been active in Okinawa for the last five years or who are currently studying there. Please come and see the works of three artists, HAYATO MACHIDA, Sachiko Kina, and Kaede Yamato, who explore the boundaries of Okinawa and its social history and diversity from their own perspectives, using familiar topics to explore these issues.

HAYATO MACHIDA x Ambient Snack bar Masako Dialogue Game
Inspired by the playing cards that appear in HAYATO MACHIDA's work, Seiko Ueda (curator/recommender) will create a dialogue space where you can participate over a drink.

Workshop: "Let's Make a Hand-Drawn Newspaper!"
Participants will create a newspaper based on articles written by participants, together with Yamato Kaede, a reporter for Poyo Poyo Newspaper.
(You will be asked to conduct interviews and prepare articles in advance based on a set topic. The topic will be provided upon registration.)

Yamato will discuss the body's role in Yamato's work, including his exhibited work "Flip the paper near the chin," as well as his current base in Okinawa, providing an opportunity to reflect on gesture.

・HAYATO MACHIDA
Born in Okinawa Prefecture in 1995. Currently studying painting at the Graduate School of Art and Design, Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts, majoring in Environmental Design.
Based in Okinawa. His paintings explore themes of self-related contradictions, such as gender and origin. Her major solo exhibitions include "Into the Closet" at Hotel Anteroom Naha in 2024 and "Unheard Melodies" at GALERIE OVO (Taipei, Taiwan). Her major exhibitions include "Drawing Now" at Shioka Studio, "Gwangju Biennale 30th Anniversary Special Exhibition" at Gwangju Museum of Art (Gwangju, South Korea), and "Interwoven Stories" at Sakima Museum in 2024. She is scheduled to exhibit at the VOCA 2026 exhibition.

Hotel Advisory/Curator
Born in Shiga Prefecture in 1982, she currently resides in Kyoto Prefecture. After graduating from Glasgow School of Art in the UK, she worked for a product design company before moving on to Hotel Anteroom Kyoto, where she managed the gallery and served as manager. In 2023, she launched her own company, MISENOMA, where she will develop spatial design, exhibition curation, and hotel advisory services to enhance the guest experience. She is also interested in practices that connect art to society and is conducting research in the fields of arts and health.
・SACHIKO KINA
Born in Okinawa City, Okinawa Prefecture. Currently studying painting at the Graduate School of Art and Design at Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts.
Using oil, acrylic, and water-based alkyd resin paints, she paints landscapes that blend everyday scenes with imaginary landscapes.
She has participated in the 2024 group exhibition "FUSEKI" (Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts Library and Art Museum, 2nd floor), the solo exhibition "Hibito Kasu" (Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts Library and Art Museum, 2nd floor), the three-person exhibition "Crispy Chestnuts" (ACUOT/TOUCA BAKE SHOP), the 10th recipient of the Kamiyama Foundation Arts Support Program, and a 2024 Japan Arts Foundation Scholarship recipient.

Translator/Theatre Researcher
Currently, she oversees the Planning and Production Group at Naha Cultural Arts Theater Naha-to. Kaede Yamato has participated in art projects both in Japan and abroad with the theater group Port B. She has also served as a specially appointed lecturer at the Tokyo University of the Arts Graduate School, a program officer at the Okinawa Arts Council, and a dramaturge at a public theater in Germany. She assumed her current position in 2022. Her translations include Elfriede Jelinek's "Without Light. [Trilogy]" and Hans-Thies Lehmann's "How Political is Postdramatic Theater?" (both published by Hakusuisha).
Kaede Yamato | Kaede Yamato
Born in Tokushima Prefecture in 1998. Currently resides in Okinawa Prefecture. Her major exhibitions include the 2024 "CAF Award 2024 Selected Works Exhibition" (Daikanyama Hillside Forum, Tokyo), the 2025 "1998_oid" (LURF GALLERY, Tokyo), and the 2025 "NEW Days" (Art Center NEW, Kanagawa). This summer, she will be participating in the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo's "Choreography of Everyday Life" exhibition, and will be holding her solo exhibition, "Sitting in the Time," at the Ritsumeikan University International Peace Museum's 80th Anniversary of the End of the War project.
Award recipients include the 2022 Mitsubishi Corporation Art Gate Program Scholarship, the 7th batch of the 2023 Kuma Foundation Creator Scholarship, and the Excellence Award at the 11th CAF Award (Contemporary Art Foundation) in 2024.

After working as a curator at the Okinawa Prefectural Museum and Art Museum, she is currently based in Okinawa and involved in various projects, including exhibition curation. She also conducts research on immigrants with roots in Okinawa and artists based overseas.
