Concept Room #204
Artist's Statement:
The mural I created this time involves scaling and reconfiguring the materials (parts) I use in my painting practice to match the room's atmosphere and structure. I create paintings using the image source of urban landscapes, which are constructed by assembling modular units like building blocks. Although I live in Tokyo, the units found in Okinawa—such as street trees and fences—differ entirely in texture and form from those in Tokyo. They also seem less homogenized; simply walking down an ordinary street allows one to encounter a variety of parts. Through this mural, I wanted to express the atmosphere where such disparate elements are loosely connected under a unique local character.
