Untitled Drawing #4 (by a Device for “Graffiti”)
Year: 2020
Material: Spray paint
Size: H1000 W5439 mm
Exhibition Location: 1F Windbreak Room

Artist Statement:
This drawing, organically and dynamically layered with spray paint, is created by a device. A spray-holding device is suspended by two long springs. The pivot point at the suspension point moves left and right at precise intervals, causing the springs to extend and contract. This motion propels the device into vigorous circular motion, tracing a Lissajous curve. When the movement speed exceeds a certain threshold, an accelerometer reacts, pressing the nozzle to spray paint onto the wall. The lines drawn from this simple mechanical motion become a device that relativizes human consciousness and physicality, offering us a chance to reconsider the act of “drawing.”

Completed the Information Design Research Program, Graduate School of Design, Tama Art University in 2009. Using digital media as a foundation, he creates works that often question the subjectivity of expression by entrusting the agency of action to autonomous devices or external factors, thereby revealing human physicality. Selected for the Overseas Training Program for Emerging Artists in 2013, resulting in residencies in Barcelona and Berlin.
