Work Commentary:
I love carving wood.
I observe the “form” of everyday, ordinary objects and carve them into wood.
Questioning and interpreting what kind of structure an object possesses and why it exists in that state satisfies my scientific curiosity. Carving into wood using my body brings an intuitive joy.
PROFILE
Born in Saitama Prefecture in 1986. Moved to Okinawa in 2005. After working as a sculptor, began hand-carving cutlery using Okinawan natural wood under the business name “Otsuka Mokkō” in 2022.
