Artist's Statement:
This series is inspired by the pruned trees found along city streets. It began with the idea
that if extraterrestrial beings—who have no concept of “plants”—were to visit Earth, they
might be astonished and think, “What are all these green masses covering this planet?”

Ena Nagao
Ena Nagao

Born in 1980. Major exhibitions include “Ena Nagao: Today is a very good day to
sleep.” (2019), ART TAIPEI (2018), ARTIST’S FAIR KYOTO (2017), and the 17th Taro
Okamoto Award for Contemporary Art Exhibition (2014). Currently Associate Professor,
Department of Sculpture, Faculty of Fine Arts and Crafts, Okinawa Prefectural University of
Arts.
